At the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition (NOCC), we believe that every story has the power to inspire hope, create connection, and ignite action. In this community spotlight, we share the journey of Jason, a devoted son whose mother’s battle with ovarian cancer became the foundation for his life’s mission. His story is one of love, loss, and the enduring commitment to honoring a loved one’s legacy after ovarian cancer.
Jason’s background and his mother’s legacy
Jason grew up alongside his mother in a close-knit bond that shaped his life.
“She was 19 years old when she had me, and we did everything together.”
When ovarian cancer entered their lives, Jason saw firsthand the devastating impact of the disease. His mother’s strength and love left an indelible mark, inspiring him to keep her memory alive through meaningful work.
Away from his advocacy, Jason is an entrepreneur with a passion for hiking, working out, reading, and enjoying the outdoors. These interests keep him grounded, but his heart is always tethered to the promise he made to his mom: to ensure no one faces ovarian cancer alone.

Turning grief into a mission with NOCC
The years following his mother’s passing were some of the most difficult of Jason’s life.
“When my mom passed, i was in a fog for many years,” he says. “It was devastating watching the person that I love most fade away”.
Jason eventually found purpose through the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition. His involvement has been wide-reaching, traveling to NOCC headquarters in Texas, connecting with other legacy family members, and participating in community events like Together in TEAL.
One moment that stood out for Jason was attending the Together in TEAL run/walk in Arizona.
“It was a very impactful moment to be surrounded by others who understand the journey and are committed to the cause.”
Inspiring others to honor their loved ones
For Jason, honoring his mother’s memory is more than a tribute, it is his calling.
“This is my life’s mission! I made a promise to my mother that no matter what my life looks like in the future that I will continue to be an ambassador for NOCC for the rest of my life.”
His advice to others facing similar loss is heartfelt and compassionate:
- Grief takes time. Take your time to get to a place where you can be strong enough to help others.
- Stay connected to your loved one’s legacy through meaningful work and community.
Jason hopes his story encourages others to use their experiences as a source of strength.
“I hope to be a conduit of information and to provide a safe place for people that I meet to share their stories with me. I want to inspire more men whether they are a legacy or not to speak up and get involved in spreading the word and bringing awareness to ovarian cancer.”
