In 2014, Team Believe was formed by Tracy Newhart, Assistant Principal of Mount Laurel-Hartford School in New Jersey. “Tracy celebrated being one year cancer-free in 2014 and formed a team for the NOCC Run/Walk in Philadelphia. One of Tracy’s mantras was that if you truly believed in something, anything was possible. She loved Christmas, and her favorite movie was Polar Express. Each year she read the story to her students, gave them a bell to take home, and taught everyone that if something seems too big or impossible, believing in yourself and all that you are capable of can give you incredible strength. Hence the name Team Believe! Being a top team was one of Tracy’s goals, and she proudly posted pictures whenever her team was in the ‘Top 10’ and imagined what it would be like if one-day Team Believe were nationally known. Her family, friends, and colleagues continue her legacy by raising awareness, organizing a ‘color run’ at Tracy’s school with 1000 students and faculty taking part, wearing teal, distributing symptom cards, and to date, have raised over $75,000 for NOCC. This legacy team has been in the top 3 teams for NOCC, was featured in the 2020 National Broadcast, and has taught us all to BELIEVE!
