Nancy Caricchio was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2018 and almost immediately became involved with our Teal Hearts group in Frederick. Her team attended their first Walk in 2018 and brought with them a chant that brought such joy and enthusiasm to all in the crowd. It’s no surprise that her team won Most Spirited two years in a row! Nancy’s Tough Cookies is formed of family and friends that dearly love this energetic woman, and they are all determined to advocate for the cause. Team members have helped Nancy make various videos, including a “knock cancer out” video of her dressed as a boxer in a teal robe with boxing gloves. A dance moves video and a video of their actual walk. They paint rocks with teal ribbons to leave throughout the Frederick community to raise awareness. Nancy also made over 90 masks as a fundraiser. This team hosted a walk in their community and made signage, chalked teal ribbons on the sidewalk, and tied teal ribbons on trees and poles along the walk route. Not only did 41 friends and family rally to walk with Nancy in 2021 in her Spring Ridge community, but she was accompanied by 14 Go Team Therapy Dogs dressed in teal too! Nancy’s husband John has been right by her side every step of the way. Nancy’s Tough Cookies was a top fundraiser for our 2020 Together in Teal No Boundaries. She is an active member within the Frederick Chapter, always seeking ways to raise awareness and support her Teal Sisters. Thank you, Nancy’s Tough Cookies, for your extraordinary efforts.
