(NOCC), we understand that health is a very personal, private subject, and we want you to feel as comfortable as possible visiting our website and using its services. "Cookies"

The NOCC, like many other organizations, uses "cookies", which are small files sent to your web browser and stored on your computer's hard drive. Cookies are used on the NOCC website to determine which local Chapter a website visitor has selected. As soon as the visitor selects a different Chapter, that cookie is over-written. The information practices of these websites are not covered by this Privacy Policy. What data do we collect and how do we use it?

The NOCC collects web traffic information and also collects certain personal information if you provide it to us. We never share web traffic information with anyone, other than on an aggregated basis. We also do not collect or share personally identifiable information about you unless you voluntarily and knowingly provide us with that information and give us permission to share it.

  1. Personal information. We do not collect personally identifiable information from you through our website unless you provide it to us voluntarily and knowingly. We may ask you for certain personal information to help with optional online activities, such as an e-mail address if you subscribe to our newsletter or a mailing address for us to send publications to you. If you do not request some type of information or services from the NOCC or otherwise provide us with personal information, then we will not have any information about you.
  2. Use of information
    • Internal use. We use aggregated data to help improve our website and its services. If you did not provide personal information to us, then we will not have personally identifiable information about you.
      If you did provide personal information to us, we may:
      • Use your contact information to respond to your query or request;
      • Enter your name into our database and may contact you to supply you with information and news about the NOCC;
      • Request contributions of time or money;
      • Ask you to complete a survey or participate in a research study; or
      • Contact you for other matters of a similar nature
    • External use. Your health information is privileged and confidential. The NOCC will not disclose to unrelated persons or entities any information you provide to NOCC that could be used to identify or contact you ("personal information"). Any personal information provided to persons or entities affiliated with NOCC will be treated in accordance with the terms of this Privacy Policy, unless you are otherwise notified. In the following limited circumstances we will consider, and may release, personal information to third parties:
      • To comply with legal requirement such as a law, regulation, search warrant, subpoena, or court order;
      • If NOCC hires another organization to provide a service on its behalf, the organization will only be provided with information required to perform the service and the organization will be prohibited from using that information for any purpose other than providing the service; or
      • In special cases, such as a physical threat to you or others
  3. NOCC may provide information about you that does not allow you to be identified or contacted ("aggregate information") to third parties. For example, we might inform third parties about the number of website users are interested in information about a particular disease category or information about the number of website users who live in a particular geographic area. We may also provide aggregate information to entities for the purpose of determining whether additional clinical trials are needed in a particular disease area.

    How we protect your information. NOCC keeps all your personal information confidential on a password-protected system and can only be accessed by NOCC website administrators.

    NOCC wants your personal information to remain as secure as reasonably possible. That is why we have a system at NOCC that combines leading technical safeguards and a code of conduct for those employees that are permitted to access our users' personal information. On the technical side, NOCC uses Secure Socket Layer (SSL) technology to protect your information while in transit between your computer and NOCC's secure server to help ensure the integrity and privacy of the personal information you provide to us. On the employee side, only authorized NOCC employees are permitted to access your personal information. All NOCC employees must abide by our Privacy Policy and those who violate this policy are subject to disciplinary action, up to and including termination. All data forms are secure and 128-bit encrypted. Personal Identifier Information is also encrypted and stored in our database.

    Policy Updates. The NOCC reserves the right to modify or update all of the policies contained in its website.
